Rick Mueller, co-director of the documentary supposed to be released 3 days ago, had this to say on the film's tardyness:
The bad news is that obtaining clearances for the photos and video clips has been difficult, to say the least. Another consideration is finding a source tape/photo that is as close to the master/original as possible to insure the highest quality reproduction.
One of the other nice things about the film is that, as promised, we've filled it with music by Douglas' favorite artists; Robbie Mcintosh, David Gilmour, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd and Margo Buchanan and they've all told us to use whatever we needed, which we thought was a great way to honor Douglas' memory. Their cooperation has made things much easier, but it still takes time because you have to deal with many different entities on several continents in many time zones.
While last week was mostly filled with still waiting for people to reply to our requests (which have been pending for weeks) I'm hoping this week we'll receive the footage and clearances we've been waiting for and be able to on-line (assemble in high resolution) the film.
I'd love to tell you more about the film, but I'd hate to diminish the experience of watching it for yourself that first time. I can tell you that we've slipped in a couple of things that only true fans of Douglas and his work will find amusing. Although we hope the film will appeal to a broad audience, and we think it will, we always had it in the back of our mind to "make it for the fans."
It's everything we hoped it would be... and more. Joel and I hope you feel the same way. We hope you can be patient just a little while longer. It'll be worth it. I promise.
All regards,
Rick Mueller
It's very fitting, for a documentary about one of the greatest writers-and procrastinators-of our time, is late.
